Ascents in The Moai

Led on pre-placed gears. Couldn’t figure out my beta for the top crux. Took some falls and came down feeling destroyed.

The easier but still nice way up Moai.

Classic top half, definitely a little soft but quite exposed. Get on it!

Somehow held it together through the mega flash pump. Such a lovely, classy climb that builds till the end. Stoked to have done this.

An awesome ramble with maybe only half a grade 18 move on it. A must do for any aspiring climber of things.

Skipped the first pitch by scrambling up the gully on the right and then seconded the 16 pitch with our new found friends. A great feeling to escape the insane winds that nearly thwarted any climbing and alas stopped us from having a crack at the 24.

Climbing could be better but, ya know, it’s the Moai. Arrived at 4:30am, slept a few hours, then hiked out there. I love Lutruwita. Single pitch.

Pulled on at or below each high point so did all individual moves but felt very delicate, would take a few goes to get clean. Cleaned off one bolt at the middle ledge as burning spear had become free

Made all the moves and put the hard draws on, would likely go as there are enough rests but felt nails for 22.

Climbed out with a grigri as progress capture device on fixed roped, when I got to the 16 Matt put me on belay at the top and I tied in so I didn't have to manage the rope behind me

Exceptionally pleasant climbing!

Jumped on this for a warm up, location saves it.

Garry and Struart were the guides. Enjoyed this throughly. I would have liked to have lead this climb but climbed it easily as a second. Will return to lead another day.

I top roped this climb with the rope from sacred site but had to dog the crux badly. Haven’t climbed grade 24 for a long time still happy to have had a go and get to the top.

Finally got to red point this climb. Sensational location and climbing. Accordingly marked it a classic.

Pretty sandbagged for 22 got the whole route without too much issue and was shut down 2 bolts from the top.

Felt harder than a 16 with a pack on. That damn yellow cam!

Led this with the draws already placed in by Roman who is super tall and strong xD. So clipping was run out and reachy. Amazing climb, super exposed and no communication with the belayer because of the waves 😬. Quite the experience but so amazing. The approach was quite an experience also! First time rope soloing with a grigri

Led it once before. This time soloed the bottom two thirds cos a fixed line across ledges doesn't work. Chucked out on top section. The rock looks hideous and I didn't really want to die.

Rpt x 2 days. It doesn’t really improve with traffic

Finally got back to figure out a way to reach the flake. Never used so many toe hooks on a grade 20 face route before. Desperate at 167 cm with negative ape. Harder than the 22 pitch.

Been on both halves before, a fantastic route.

Could get high on R arete at crux but was so spreadeagled I couldn’t move. Ended up just climbing face with a very heinous heel hook mantle which may feel scary on lead.
