I can finally say that I’ve climbed on Taipan. Stiff warm up and hard for me, with my hopeless lack of sloper strength. But i think i would like to get it done and get my first Taipan tick done.

Crux is killing my forearms... Working on it!. Top part is easier but mental, beautifully exposed and after 10min meditation sitting on the Fist, it could be done.

Tried very hard to onsight - failed. Fell on the span. It's less technical than the Groovy span, but about the same distance. I had so much crap hanging off my harness. A #4 rock and #1.5 cam will do it. Fingers crossed for Saturday.

Three shots. My shoulders were totally powered out and I was getting past the tricky clip and falling just before the fist jugs with plenty of forearm juice left but nothing in my upper arms. Too many days on.

Why does this not get more traffic? It is utterly brilliant. A route I've wanted to try for a long time, and it didn't disappoint. Incredibly varied climbing up an aesthetic and intriguing line. A slow exploratory lap trying to find holds (and scrub/chalk up the route), but it was all feeling "feasible" as a project until I reached the low-percentage mid-height crux. A taller person could span it, for me it's quite the hit-and-miss move at the moment. The upper section is beautiful as your truck left and up, and features only 4 bolts in the entire top half for some serious spice. I might spend some time on a simulator for the crux to make it a more likely move. It's worth the effort.

Note to Future Paul: Don't keep getting on this route, you always hate it! The climbing is "generally" really cool (though, obviously, the crux is kinda a disgusting move), but it has the most hideous bolting I've experienced on Taipan, which is clearly designed to make the entire route (and in particular the crux) as unpleasant as possible. Could be salvaged with a RATIONAL rebolt (ie, some minor bolting adjustments and nice rings, not adding bolts).

Had an epic getting the gear on/moves worked out/adapting to the exposure. I used a 2 camalot above the 5th ringbolt, a .5 (or big nut) above the 6th, and would've liked to have a 3 just before the 7th. Used a low, rotating kneebar beta.

Only one shot on this but got some pretty awesome links. Climbed to the crux (with one silly slip), worked out the crux and grabbed the draw to clip (shit bolt position), had a quick hang and then onsighted from there to the just before the dyno where i promptly fell off. Pulled back on and smashed the dyno to clip the anchors, then the sun hit and there was no second try.

only one lap Maybe the coolest route i have tried on a rope, so different to the blueys! Once you are through the crux it is just awesome climbing with an awesome jump to the final jug! Keen to return for the send!

AWESOME, awesome, awesome. A sublime line, which puts you in some of the best positions you've ever had in a 'single pitch sport climb'. I very much enjoyed it, although I did only use a fucking single rope without having the luxury of extendable draws or even roller biners. The rope drag was quite bad (felt like pulling up 20kg and was a bit frightening at the top combined with the rather spaced bolting. At least you save some weight with the few quickdraws. AMAZING!!!
