Ascents in Oceania by Ben Armstrong

The horror, the horror... Has the potential to be a pretty good climb if about 10kg worth of fern, moss and mud is removed from the crack. Very sustained slime jamming lower down. An umbrella is recommended for the belayer.

Beastly. Pitch two only. Thrashed my way through the crux thanks to pure reptilian desperation rather than technique. The thin flake above is somewhat disturbing.

Definitely worth doing. A number 5 and 6 camalot are recommended.

About as good as it gets for a route this long. Keeps you fighting all the way.

A classic in it's own special way, but a somewhat frightening prospect without (a handful) of big cams. Try an minimize rope drag in the first chimney to avoid doing a forced belay in the second.

Probably easier if you don't try and weasel your way out of doing the layback.

Stupidly hard start for the grade.

Stiff for the grade. Maybe a touch overrated, but cool moves on the hand traverse.

Fun little one move wonder.

Unassuming little route that packs a surprising punch.

Classic dirty chimney (avoiding it is possible, but spoils all the fun) with a thrutchy crux.

Good stuff but fairly easy for a pipes 18. I think I mangled the traverse and ended up going somewhere weird. The direct finish looks a little more pure (albeit vegetated).

Nice.

Nice climbing apart from the "50% friend 50% foe" bush. The third pitch is nothing special (about as thrutchy as it looks). Take a number a couple of #4s (or a #5) for the top section.

The walk in is worth it for this route alone. Heavenly hand jams.

An amusing underground adventure. Make sure you're well padded. Big cams (above 4) help, but are probably not necessary.

One of the best. Both pitches are awesome and varied. Pitch two felt a couple of grades easier but had some really spectacular moves.
