A cool iron stone flake feature running up the arete. A couple of crux crimps turn into nice little sequence and then the route backs off into an enjoyable Mountains arete.

EOD lap in passing showers to check it out. Bouldery from the 1st to the 4th bolt (about 6m) then about 22 to the top via the original finish. Not really true arete climbing movement, but pretty funky nevertheless. I think the crux will be clipping the 3rd bolt on link. Bring a #4 and a #0.75 for the runout in the middle.

Kind of late after flat tyre dramas so just checked it out on TR, was confused by route to left at first. Top section fine and nice climbing. Getting through lower roof seems a bit hard without straying left. We didn't have enough bolt plates ( more than 5 needed) . Good cams. Need skin.

Just one move above 5 th bolt which would have felt ok at the start of the day. But went backwards second go. The run out and cam in the middle add character.

Well I did detour briefly into shakes as straight up seems contrived and pretty dangerous, and the other way goes into racers edge and is even more dangerous. Still felt enough to be 23, and very pleasant outing

03 March 2011. I seem to remember one crux section after you first move out right, where two specific moves had me completely stumped. Amazing top section under the huge flakes.

Great to get back on this after it spanked me a few years ago. Still tricky, but I ran up it this time. The two (varied) cruxes are classic tricky slab movement, and are surrounded by great slab climbing. As good as I remember it!

Went to the crux on Shakes and Flakes, and it looked easier to the left. Ended up on this route pulling over a rooflet to tiny crimps...too hot for thin lines in 32 degree heat with direct sun!

Immediately after rain, and during passing showers. Not too hard for a 23 slab, but sustained and awesomely varied moves. Bring a few cams for the start.

Tried this two years ago and though it was the most sandbagged climb ever. Apparently I was just weak. I still reckon it's sandbagged but maybe not as much as I thought.

Stellar climbing! Must do if you're down at Zig Zag. Solid slabbing with some classic committed moves. I can only imagine what it must have been like prior to the rebolt.

Felt like shit this day. sore hips and stabbing back pain. only got on this and honey dip. However, great slabby sport route. took a couple of attempts to get the beta for after the 3rd clip. once i got it, the rest was lovely.

Great little route but with some fairly substantial reaches if you are as short as me, I definitely needed to utilise some slab trickery to make up for the fact that I couldn't reach any of the holds. Probably not really that hard at the grade in the style but a few of the edges did feel pretty small in the afternoon sun.

For those who are interested to know about the original "Shakes and Flakes" before the rebolt: In Mikl's words, "It originally had just 2 bolts, the (new) 2nd and probably the 4th. Hence the shakes, the mantel was about a meter or 2 above the bolt, with a runout above, a bolt, a sling on the arete, and a few wires in horizontals to protect the finish."

Not sure about the rebolt, but fortunately did this ‘back in the day’ so got the original experience as a beginner... so we ended up doing the ‘extra shakes’ greenpoint version with only one bolt clipped on whole route , though I did clip a second temporarily before deciding to remove it ... may be able to avoid the one we clipped but may require a good belayer or simply not falling ... Good gear available for most of route if you take your time, commit a little bit at times and relax for the final runout to the chains ... best way to do the route imho ... try it, you’ll like it .!
