2nd shot today, 11th total, placing the gear. Almost managed it as my warmup but botched a sequence at the very top, and then flash pumped into oblivion. Not muuuuch harder than on pre-placed, though pumpier and a bit scarier (I had to minimise my gear for all the hard stuff to a point where it was quite "engaging but probably safe". Pretty psyched to get it done in good style, as its the last of the harder classic cracks of the Blueys for me to tick.

After ticking P1, my Dad jumaared up to join me on the belay, and I onsighted P2. P2 is actually good, varied and sustained climbing, though unfortunately vegetated and bit dirty/snappy due to lack of traffic. It's actually kind of intimidating despite the grade (due to the composition) but totally worthwhile.

4 25 Sport

Funky, not a classic, but cool reachy boulder into easier but delicate mantles. Barely 25 if youre tall.

Top roped once then got it done, amazing pitch! One of the best ive done at Bare Rock! Technical and sustained moves up crazy good rock, eases off massively in the second half. On the easier end of 27.

I dare say this may even be a stiff 6! Goes without saying but its ultra mega classic

One off the life list. First go today. Fairly good but maybe not as classic as everyone says. I stopped at the first double bolts on pitch one so i could give Liz a better belay and because the next bit is kinda shit. We then climbed from here to the belay at the end of Masada as pitch two and from that belay to the top as pitch three. Seems like a good way to do it and means pitch two is the only average bit of climbing. Good value.

A great outing up a major feature (visible from Perry's!) but not necessarily a great route. Steep and atmospheric, but generally average rock. All of the various cruxes are above gear, which makes this feel like a real trad route, despite a few bolts.

The quite bold start to P2 had me get scared and jump off twice before I could change my headspace and push through the runout crux for the send, after which I flashed to the top. A great pitch which is crazy overhanging through multiple roofs.

Pitch 3 is short and steep up an overhanging offset arete, but the rock is hideous.

Pitch 4 is basically unprotected until you regain Superdyke (after which the rock and climbing greatly increase).

A great route for a half day of climbing. Challenging pitch 2 and 4, and to me the crux sequence of pitch two was the hardest climbing of the whole route. Ended up doing the pitches a little out of order as I didn't get pitch two on the first try. After onsighting pitch 4 I figured I should have another attempt on pitch two while rapping back down.

Pitch 4 was hard off the belay but then ended up being very juggy climbing, to a finish with large moves between ledges in a great position.

Awesome all-trad route that gets shade from sun-up to sun-down and manages to pack all kinds of varied climbing into its three pitches. The chimney on the first pitch was way above my comfort level in that style and i struggled to generate even the most minor upwards momentum. I still dont know how i oozed my way up?? Pitch two (which i linked pitch one into) is also great with a nice steep hands section and its own perplexing chimney before the belay on the slab. Then the final pitch is radness and were it longer would be one of the best bits of crack in the mountains. I fell off on the onsight and then went up and down a bit figuring out the moves and preparing for a solid second go. Here my inner sport climber kicked in and i did all manner of crack gastoning and laybacking to get myself up this pitch, which is probably not too hard at the grade once you know what to do. It was then super awesome to see Jason smash it out for a full beta spray flash on second, once more proving that hiding beneath his sport climbing facade, a trad climbing monster is lying in wait, mostly quietly biding its time but occasionally springing forth and crushing cracks with the raw bouldering power of an endurance deprived bolt clipper. Thanks Paul for the descent bolts as they make life significantly easier!

Gets classic status because you'll never climb anything like it again. P1 is the money. P3 I went for a sandy nothing instead of the right hold early on. 2nd shot the treat. I think you could easily take a grade of each pitch in terms of the actual climbing difficulty...it's just the position that makes it feel harder.

Rad day out!

The climbing was a touch dirty in places but that's expected as this is an epic place.

The 26 pitch was great, the boulder problem in the corner felt hard but I'm a bit out of shape. Solved with granite squirm style! A knee pad would change things.

There where a couple of spots where clipping was difficult, pre equip for sure.

The desperate and scary mantle got easier as I pulled a minger off leaving a positive slot.

MEGA CLASSIC, what a bloody unreallll route. From start to finish this thing is elite, very unique! Send anxiety at the start is for sure very real. First pitch felt the hardest, fear of the unknown... Second pitch is nutty stepping out across that exposure! Solid lead from Johan. Bots'd the 3rd pitch onsight by trying to climb the face, before reminding myself this is the WAFER THIN FIN! What an adventure! Arrived to white out fog unable to see the pillar at all, waited an hour for it to lift and rapped in around 12:00 - back at the car in day light around 7:00ish. fixed 2x 80m ropes for the rap in and climbed on twin 60s, in hindsight i'd just bring the 2 80s (or better yet a long static so enable a jug out) but that means the belay for the first pitch is pretty poor - an anchor here would help. Opted for the rap bounce to welsh dragon which is a fun addition to the experience.

This route took me 3 attempts to find the frist bolt. In the process I almost lost a mate and managed to return some of Steve Turners gear to his family. It has been a journey and I've seen that this mountain is forever changing! The crux of this climb is the logistics of the approach and desent. One slip due to fatigue or haste in the wrong place could spell disaster. Huge respect for the route setters, what an undertaking!

The climb is well bolted and easy to follow except for the crux of pitch 14 which has a hidden bolt above the overhang to the left.

Additional Approach Beta: After ascending the S.E Ridge boulder problem, turn right at the obvious camp site. Follow the face down and rapell 35m approx. Once on the scree slope, head left and along the bottom of the face for 50m to the obvious end. Head out left over the boulder and up onto the vegetated ledge where the bolt is 10m along and 3m up.

A brilliant and very worthy mini tradventure. I fell off straight away at the start of pitch one, came down from the first piece of gear, ditched most of the rack because it weighed so much, and fired it off. Such a classic and quite feisty pitch, felt quite 23 honestly. Second pitch was a fun ramble, I broke off an enormous footer though and went for an unexpected and exciting one arm dangle. Pitch three is also great; a novel roof crack to start and pleasant layback to finish. Doubles (or triples!!) to 0.5 and singles above that seemed like a good rack. Wires were helpful too. Barely need any quickdraws, maybe four regular ones and two extenders for the roof on pitch three. You can also take one bolt bracket for the belay at the end of pitch two, but it probably isn't necessary. The bush bash off the top also wasn't too bad, definitely faster than trying to rap and walk out normally.

P1 Total sandbag at 22 with four hard sections, but as this pitch is well bolted its easy to push through. Did this on Sat 20th with the Antarctic winds, with not enough cloths making it really tough, especially as we climbed higher. Previously done Contented Cows variant (the better version overall), so only first 3 pitches were new to me. Great climb and happy to finally have had the opportunity to do this mega classic.

Took a long long time. Some very thin sections at the grade, definitely much harder than strangeness and harder than the start of evolution. Pretty sure we found the right line based on the description, but found it rather desperate.
