Leliehoek
The closest rock to Bloemfontein. Worth a weekends stay in the good safe campsite. It has a swimming pool in the summer. 20 rand entrance fee is currently payable at reception. |
Camp Site Boulders
These are located either side of the large braai facility at the top of the camp site through the gate. |

★ I’ll tell you but you won’t believe
Steep moves on small but good crimps. |
24
★ Route 2 - No name
Steep moves on even smaller and not so good crimps up the black water streak. The grade drops if you move to the right. |

Sasquatch
Small pile of rocks often found at the bottom for those short on height or ethics. Awkward start. This route was originally graded 18, but the breaking off of a number of holds has made the start considerably harder if you follow the original intention not to use the steps or other “aids” for the start. |
24
No Name
Steep line up the middle of the boulder. |
Dassie cave
If you start up the hiking trail on the east of the property, you will eventually come to a huge overhanging cave accessed through a slot in the rock formed by various boulders leaning against each other. A very nice place to climb in the summer. |

33
★★★ Inception
Climbs up the very blank, very overhanging wall. Pack you best pair of fingers. |
23
★★★ S&M
Climbs up the left of the long vertical face perpendicular to the overhang. A strenuous start on slopey crimpers leads to a tricky section past a small overhang and then technical moves on the blunt arete. |
23
★★★ The Fragile
Shares the last two bolts and anchors with S&M. |

Chris Kleynhans' Project
Shares the anchors with S&M. |
Big Jesus Wall
This is the big main wall one sees as you drive towards the camp site. The area is named for the large white graffiti cross just to the right of route 5. |
Big Jesus Wall |
20
★★ Long Kisses to Flying Holds
Climbs more or less straight up, through the break halfway up the face, to make a nice long route. |
17
★★ Gecko Falling
Rising traverse from the left. Start from the corner. |
21
★★ Gecko Rising
Takes the awkward corner and up through the roof. |
18
★★ Basia
Ascend from the lowest point on the wall and then through the shield near the top. |
23
★★ Always look on the bright side of life
Ascends the steep wall just to the left of the chimney. |
26
★★★ He's not the Messiah he's a very naughty boy.
Set to become one of the harder classics of the crag. The steep ramp leads to the obvious overhanging layback. Traverse beneath and then through the roof to the slab above. |
30
Naughty Girl
To the right of "naughty boy" |
23
★★ Monotastic
On the right of the corner is a shortish varied climb. Fun climbing leads to more fun climbing. There is a bees nest 5ish meters to the left of the anchors. Just be mindful. |
26
★ Toe and go
Starts just right of Monotastic. Fun climbing leads to an obvious lip and then some more interesting varied climbing. |
The Corner Office
Vertically above the Dassie cave face a huge block juts out into empty space. Because of the long traverses, cleaning these two routes is problematic. Two solutions are offered. Firstly, from the chains, two bolts lead easily to the top. Thus, the belayer can second and clean the route, allowing the whole party to exit at the top. As an alternative, two bolts are strategically placed at the top of the boulder (these were used for the bolting of the routes), and abseiling from these will allow the route to be cleaned, although two abseils may be required, with an obligatory climb back to the top—life is hard at the top! |
The Corner Office |
19
The View From the Top
Scramble down the gulley on the North of the Corner office, and then anchor the belayer on the tree. The bolts are closely spaced to prevent falling too far below the edge, and should generally be clipped close to the chest. |
Embankment
The Embankment is basically the top wall of the valley. The Cartoon wall is on the left, probably just short of 100m long, with a vertical section between 15m high at the left, to about 8m on the right. The entire wall also has a sloping top above the vertical section. The Mini Jesus Wall is the almost blank right half of this wall capped by a prow and having the Cracked Egg Boulder at its right extremity. |

A beautiful line with a very tricky start (the crux), that then trends diagonally left up the face, eventually sharing top anchors with Beavis and Butt-Head. A second crux is encountered just before joining those lines. |

Tough As Nails Boulder
This area, on the west side of the valley (stream left, if you must) contains a number of boulders, and also the top wall of the valley is described here as the embankment. The bolts for all the routes were sponsored by the CUT mountain club in Bloemfontein during the 2010 bolting course. |

Honour to Wisdom
Climb the overhanging arête. A short but bouldery line. |
22
No Thought
Climb the line of fine pockets. |
15
★★★ No Big Kahoonas
Climb the obvious crack right of No Thought. The route starts from the boulder. The potential exists for a much harder extension to the route from the ground up, or perhaps this is best climbed as a distinct boulder problem. The first ascentionist left all his smaller nuts at home, thinking he would need only the larger sizes for the crack. Probably only nuts smaller than a DMM#5 will be needed, or micro cams of the same size. |
Red Dragon boulder
A short distance up (East) from the Commander Boulder. If you take the path from the boom, you will first walk past this boulder, and then get to a T-junction in the path, from where turning right will take you to the Commander boulder, and turning left will take you to the Big Jesus wall. |
Red Dragon boulder |
24
★★★ Hannibal
Climb up the relatively blank face marked with the black streaks. |
25
★★★ Buffalo Bill
Climb the arête moving left through the roof with some weird moves! |
Commander 9.5 Boulder
This boulder lies in the trees just to the left of the stream as you approach it from below. |
Commander 9.5 Boulder |
Stream side
On the stream side of the boulder, there is a small "passage" between the boulder proper (on the left when coming from the stream) and a low sloping boulder on the right which is a nice place for onlookers to sit and watch. |
Commander 9.5 Boulder Stream side |
19
★★ Left Clavical
Steep and sustained. Crux is at mid height. The bolts are a little sparse (compare the number of bolts with AGH, which is the same height), so don’t attempt to lead this route unless you are confident of the grade). Until the 4th bolt has been clipped, you have the potential of a groundfall if things go slightly wrong. We have permission to add two more bolts (in between what are bolts 1 and 2, and 3 and 4). Someone should try to do this… |
21
★★★ A Grateful Heart
Climbs a nice line of holds and pockets through overhanging and then vertical rock. Very sustained at its grade, although a good hands-off rest can be had after you have dispensed with the crux. |
22
Open Project
A prominent scoop goes up this face of the boulder. This route climbs up just to the left of the scoop, with a slightly overhanging start. The route is very sustained with minimal rests. |
20
★★ Route 101
Towards the right end of the boulder wall when standing in the little "passage" and facing the boulder. Climb up to the overhang and then up the right of the arete. |
24
AWOL
Just further right than Route 101. Climb the rightward slanting arete. |
Commander 9.5 Boulder |
Cave side
Walking around the "back" of the boulder from the stream side, an opening leads to a cave with another "passage" between the boulder proper and an adjacent boulder. |
Commander 9.5 Boulder Cave side |

★ Mini Onion Pussy Eggs
A very tricky route for the grade, but quite enjoyable if you get it. Mind your head! |
15
Slipstream
Only just a different route to MOPE. Keep to the right of the same line of bolts. Rather just do MOPE. |
13
Don't be long
Follows the left slanting crack in the upper wall. |
13
Middle of the road
Up through the pockets. |
14
Machete Mayhem
Straight up from the tree stump. |
14
Master and Commander
The right-most line of bolts. |
14
Wing Walker
Squirm under the chock stone and climb the arête. |
East wall
The top side of the valley on the East is also marked by numerous faces and also some boulders. Lots of potential for more routes exists here. |
