Das Ruhrgebiet ist reich an Klettermöglichkeiten. Das reicht von der überdachten Mauer, über Steinbrüche, einen Spritzbetonturm bis zum schattigen Felsen im Wald. Im Kletterführer erwähnt sind: 18 Kletterhallen, davon 4 reine Boulderhallen, 8 Außenkletteranlagen, 6 Steinbrüche und diverse weitere Fels- und Mauerwerke.
