Ascents as sport by Nathan Murdoch

Steeper than it looks but the holds are there.

Confused between this and the adjacent 15... sticking to the arete looked easier IMO.

Unintuitive moves make it stiff for a 13.

First pitch is solid for the grade. Great climbing on the others too. Abseils were pretty straight forward until I got to the end of the rope on P1 with no anchors in sight... To avoid a spanking like the one I received, don't forget about the intermediate anchors!

Tony led, snapped a right foot and luckily had enough slack out not to hit the ledge. Pretty mellow on TR, nothing spesh.

Tony lead the first bit, I took over for the traverse and vertical. The space beneath me didn't factor in as I slipped off the last bolt... Pumped out. Luckily still on the wall so didn't have to prussik. Took a breather on the ledge and finished it off. I blame flash-pump.

Tough for the grade. Stick clip.

Eddy put the rope up and we worked the bouldery start.

Once we figured the crucial beta for the start, just had to suck it up and go for the reach. Techy from there.

Second session on this one. Wasn't pretty but I diddy.

Cool bouldery moves to start. Felt much safer stick clipping the first bolt. Cruxy finish as for Angry Ants 🤷‍♂️

Interesting moves on this one! Definitely cuddled the tree. Bonus tree-bar!

I dont get the reference in the name of this one... A little head scratchy in the middle and good fun.

Started early, got to first rap by 8:30. The knot got stuck in a notch and Tony had to prussick back up to dislodge it. Still very hard hauling due to the long rap. We each used waist prussicks to get the ropes down. Got to the ground at 11 then had a hard time finding the start... An epic was developing!

Finally found the starting ledge and got on the rock by 12:30. P1. 2nd, Bungled the first move but got it second try with different beta. P2. Reachy! P3. A doozey of a pitch! Great lead by Tony. P4. Basic. Straight forward. P5. Misleading at grade 8. More like 11, still easy so meh. P6. Too gripped to extend draws under roof. Paid for it with heinous rope drag and a fall at the last move on the face. I would pre-extend all my draws before leaving the ground next time... Or be better. P7. Long! Good holds, sustained. Both very fatigued by this stage. P8. Lead in the dark, chill way to finish. Top out around 6pm.

Very long day, almost an epic. Lucky to have perfect weather and no wind. Car to car 11.5hrs.

Needed a run to work out my beta.

Tough for the grade. Made harder by the rain-like seepage from above.

Solid for the grade.

Easy for the grade compared to others in the area.

Unlucky foot slip in the layback middle section.
