Ascents in Western Australia as trad by Ashley Felton

A really cool adventure route, in a (relatively) accessible location, with fun moves, great exposure, good (for Bluff Knoll) protection and an easy walk-off. What's not to love?

A fun route that I really enjoyed returning to after a few years. Bomber gear and comfortable belay positions.

A fine-enough climb, and not worth the effort of the approach.

Second pitch only due to rough seas. Intimating for a first taste of WCH. I was glad to be seconding.

An excellent line, but: sandbagged, much? The first pitch is much harder than the grade suggests. Second pitch is very pleasant, and much easier.

A lovely line of mild trad. Second pitch is the best, but it's all a good time.

A pleasure to get on this again.

Hey, I remember: trad is scary on lead. Calling this one a retro-flash.

A quick burn on top rope.

Pleasant enough climbing, worth doing to reach On Edge (above). Use the last third as an opportunity to practice your trad placements.

The first, second and fourth pitches make this a good slab route, the third and the topout prevent it from being very good. Pitch one, the starting flake with big layback and reachy traverse was the highlight. Take a couple of large cams for it!

Great climbing on good rock, with plenty of opportunity to protect the moves. Each of the two traverses adds some spice. The third "pitch" is a formality, but it's not as though you can avoid it. Highly recommended for a short multi-pitch adventure.

Muddy, chossy and hard to protect. I got partway and bailed off a nearby bolt. No redeeming features here - don't bother.

Another trad lead experience, again making shameless use of Kym's gear. Top half: faaaaark, it's pretty thin holds. Better trust your feet and those stopper placements. Felt like a 19 today.

Had a spin on top rope. Eh, it was alright. Going to be much harder when that big first flake pulls off soon.

Soloed it. Couldn't have hurt myself if I'd tried. We don't get much off-width around Perth. This gets a star, purely for uniqueness.

Hahaha nope. Sandbag much? A single point harder than SSD I don't think.

A properly good slab route, this. Will come back for the lead one day.

Channeling my inner Honnold. Also I was bored.

Good fun on top rope, but suffers a bit from being a one-trick pony (crux traverse). Wouldn't come back for the lead.

Such a fun adventure, this route. Not many like it in WA.
