Ascents as trad by Mark Aug

Bulgy crux moves were super fun. Couldn’t find the position, hang around for ages, then finally sent along with a desperate snatch right at the end.

A couple of big moves off the deck then eased off considerably. The big moves were fun though.

Sent what I thought was the crux with confidence move before getting stuck in a box pumping out. Huge fight hugging a big block feature but still found a way, albeit not the easiest way it seems.

Probably the best I’ve climbed. Saw the moves and executed them without hesitation. Took good rests. Felt amazing.

Lovely top half with long reachy moves between crimps.

Super proud to get this clean. Thought it was done when I couldn’t get a nut out through the lower crux. Persisted for a few strenuous minutes before finally managing to pop it and keep moving. Found some legitimate hand jams comfortably but struggled to find sensible feet in the crack … felt harder than some 20+ graded climbs accordingly. Need to learn some crack technique!

Incredible route, and a super fun experience removing gear. Can’t imagine leading something like this on trad any time soon.

Another amazing route with thought provoking & powerful moves. Found some creative toe hook beta to help navigate the lower crux but still fell on first attempt. Tried a super high heel mantle move further up that went the second time. Beaten by darkness and took a small fall on the boulder descent back to the car!

So good I had to climb it again.

Outrageously good climbing with amazing movements interspersed with good rests. Climbed assertively after seeing beta from Ollie & Ang. Felt amazing.

Took out the gear then had a super fun experience rapping down Blue Hawaii and placing a few (highly suspect) trad redirects.

Got the bouldery start after a couple of attempts then in started pouring and needed to jug up to retrieve gear. Took me a few minutes and a few desperate lunges off slick rock to realise the send was in fact, not on.

Happy to get the clean send on the 2nd go. Fluffed the beta midway where I fell previously but retreated to a rest with more info and committed to the moves from there.

Burnt a few attempts on bogus toe-hook beta before Ollie pointed out a high foot I hadn’t considered, then took a fall midway pumped out messing a foot swap I didn’t fully commit to while fresher.

Lovely climbing that reminded me a lot of Slider wall back in Brissy. Didn’t climb with great rhythm and was super pumped at the top, but got it clean after seeing Ollie & Ang send before me.

Seconded Ollie. Was cruisy until I spent approx 5-10 mins trying to remove a small cam and then eventually pumped out and needed to weight the rope to use both hands. Need to practice cam removal!

Finished with face climbing under BARFJ anchors as a change up with was super fun

Last climb for the trip. Had beta for crux move dialled but needed to readjust wide right hand which caused me to fluff a strenuous high foot placement. Ran out of light - one for next time.

First trad second, left a small cam in, didn’t want to risk getting it stuck.

Beautiful experience route reading with such freedom over a huge rock face. Found a nice rhythm and executed the balancy moves near the top with confidence and joy.

First time being lowered into a huge sea of rock was a very cool sensation. Felt lonely and exposed for the first few metres then found some rhythm.

Overhanging with good jug rests. Fluffed around around looking for more positive hand positions and giant holds on the onsight attempt. Fun.

Tenuous step across crimping on left fingernails was rewarding

Hard layback moves felt tough for the grade. Not elegant but found a way.

Beautiful slabby face climbing section went first go, the struggled on upper section with high heel move and the full sun. Awesome route.

First outdoor climb
