Had a go at following up direct at the top to the left bolted anchor, much harder and grubbier that way!

Great long pitch, repeat.

16 Easy The Gecko Groove Trad 28m Classic
Repeat.

Sun 8th May 2022 - Mead's Wall
20 Against a sea of trouble Trad 20m Very Good
Brilliant climbing, bit stiff for a 19 - more like a fair 20 we think. Pretty pumpy!

Climbed with "Hard knock life" which worked well (I extended several placements and skipped several of the bolts to reduce drag with a single rope).

Sat 7th May 2022 - Whakapapa Gorge
20 Moko Trad 45m Classic
Great line, gear can be a bit fiddly at times but mostly not too small, sometimes bit sparse - better than I was expecting from climbnz description. Offset nuts useful.

Highly recommended half ropes as the gear/route does wander somewhat at times.

Perhaps more of a solid 19 the way I climbed it, I can see going direct being harder- pretty staunch at a couple of spots though!

Mon 18th Apr 2022 - Whakapapa Gorge
18 Authorised Version Trad 45m Very Good
Some great moves down low, then eases right off till the top. Half ropes would be useful.

Sat 16th Apr 2022 - Whakapapa Gorge
17 Scoopage (Scoopage Linkup Pride of the South)
1 17 25m linkup Pride of the South
Trad 25m Very Good
Fun first pitch, climbed as one long pitch to the top, linking up first pitch with 2nd pitch of Pride of the South (half ropes nice).

19 Pride of the South (Pride of the South Linkup Scoopage)
2 19 20m
Mixed trad 20m, 11 Very Good
Nice moves in the 2nd pitch! Climbed 1st pitch of Scoopage and 2nd pitch of this climb as one long pitch. Clipped anchor and crux bolt but found good gear so didn't use 3 of the bolts, not sure they are all needed.

Sun 14th Feb 2021 - Sebastapol Bluffs
revenge of the podge
21 Tremor Mixed trad 30m, 9 Good
Poor bolting above the ledge/vegetated slope. Had a ledge fall when I was getting close to the 2nd bolt above the ledge.. Landed hard on my left heel on a rock which fractured my calcaneous (heel bone), lucky I didn't break it worse. Pretty cruxy (to me at least) moves below the 2nd bolt off ledge. Belayer had some slack out but main reason for ledge fall was high 2nd bolt off ledge imo. Nice moves to where I got to but I would not recommend this route because of the real bad ledge fall potential with current bolting.

Sun 14th Feb 2021 - Sebastapol Bluffs
Twin Cracks
19 Balls Mixed trad 18m, 3 Very Good
Fantastic engaging climbing, might be a classic if the start scramble to the real climbing wasn't so blocky. Quite thin upto the ledge then much easier, great gear- brass offsets and bomber red C3. Would have been an onsight if I hadn't read prior ascents logged here doh! Solid for the grade imo.

16 Twin Cracks Trad 20m Very Good
Solid for the grade. Chossy down low, climbing gets better as you get higher.

Fri 12th Feb 2021 - Sebastapol Bluffs
Kingfisher Area
16 Conservation Crack Trad 15m Very Good
Some nice jams. First time leading, 2nded last time.

Wed 30th Dec 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
Wall of Sirens
19 Lakeside Sewing Machine Trad 22m Good
FA with Rafael White. Tricky start eases off as the climb leads up the crack and into the fun dihedral. Eats up nuts (offsets nice), single rack of cams sufficient.

Wed 30th Dec 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
The Point
18 Benny’s Magical Koura Circus Trad 18m Good
Was very dirty but I gave it a decent scrub after coming back from doing the FA of Lake Side Sewing Machine with Rafael. Seconded in approach shoes which was a mistake. Go get on it whilst its fairly clean.

Tue 29th Dec 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
The Point
15 All Aussie Adventures Mixed trad 35m, 5 Good
Quite enjoyed this one, nice climbing and exposure for the grade. Quite licheny, deserves a clean, might be back to do this at some stage. 2nd pitch is very short, probably best to combine using alpine draws to reduce drag (may be bit too much drag though?). Top pitch had 4 bolts not 3 as in current guide.

Mon 28th Dec 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
Cracks Wall
16 The Gecko Groove Trad 28m Very Good
Repeat, nicer than I remembered, very enjoyable, great jams.

Fun moves above the staircase on good feet. Got a bomber offset in.

19 Bitten By A Cobra Mixed trad 25m, 4 Very Good
Sweet mixed line, will be better after more people have climbed it and the rock has become a bit less crumbly on the face. 1 whip and rest about 2/3rd way up crack.

Sat 10th Oct 2020 - Ti Point
Chad Wall
18 16 Chad Trad 20m Classic
What an experience! I finally got on this at around high tide when the combo of waves crashn and strong wind were threatening to drench my belayer (thanks Donovan) and added some motivation for me to get off the ground quickly! Not sure on the grade.. I'm not that good at jamming (as I suspect the majority who try lead this, why doesn't NZ have more cracks!) but getting better so tricky to know, not that it really matters. The sandbag of 16 feels kinda appropriate. Could have easily lost the flash as my arms got a bit pumped around mid height but I managed to keep it together, stoked on that.

Sat 10th Oct 2020 - Ti Point
The Amphitheatre
19 21 Mihna Trad 20m Very Good
Repeat. Maybe hard 18? Not sure.

Sat 26th Sep 2020 - Ti Point
The Amphitheatre
19 21 Mihna Trad 20m Very Good
Repeat. Really like this climb, offset brass nuts are very useful as most of the cracks flare a lot, bit hard to protect well otherwise imo. I would say its a 19 climbed the way I do going just to the right at the crux (but still using thin crack). I can see how going directly up the crack would be much harder.

Sun 24th May 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff Millenium Wall
18 Millennium Madness (Millenium Madness) Trad 15m Classic
Another repeat, great warm up.

Sun 17th May 2020 - Ti Point
The Amphitheatre
19 21 Mihna Trad 20m Very Good
What Shaun mistakenly read from the guide as a nice 15 warm up was this haha. Wasn't feeling particularly inspired for trad but seeing Shaun climb this convinced me too. What a way to warm up to leading again after 2 months away from rock! Lots of flaring cracks so offset nuts were very useful. Seems easy for the grade but may have gone slightly off route, hard to tell. A small offset cam would have been nice for the crux! Didn't use any of the bolts.

Sun 15th Mar 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff Wall of Fate
17 Billy Bold Trad 12m Very Good
Lead clean, quite enjoyable. Would have been nice to have a 5 for the wide top crack as 4 is a bit tipped out..!

Sun 15th Mar 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff The Arches
22 Fingers Crossed Mixed trad 25m, 4 Very Good
Lead the trad section bit smoother this time, got to the first bolt again but failed at the crux. Worked the moves to the second bolt but couldn't quite get it. Warm conditions and just didn't have the stamina.

15 Purple Haze - with Shannon Greenfield Trad 18m Don't Bother
Done ground up over some very loose blocks (which I need to clean) whilst Shannon was singing away belaying me. Sketchy crumbly rock and quite dirty atm, highly not recomended and not at all suitable for trad beginners..

Sat 1st Feb 2020 - Tukino
Tascmaster Wall
21 Caddys Corner Mixed trad 30m, 1 Good
One fall on bolt from trying steep overhang.

19 Flake Crack Mixed trad 30m, 1 Good
A few tricky balancy moves getting established to clip the bolt then some fun climbing up around the big flake to committing move over the flake to easier ground to top out.

Sun 26th Jan 2020 - Mount Taranaki
Summit area Stargate Slab
18 Suffrage and Emancipation - with Romain Trad 35m Good
Romain lead the pitch nicely. Could easily be a 2 star or even 3 star route if the splitter continued. Rock deteriorates after the crack substantially in the chimney. Crack is quite nice though, could be bit stiff for the grade- definitely need to be able to jam!

18 Stargate Trad 25m Classic
Nice climbing with fantastic views- highly recommended!

Sun 19th Jan 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff The Arches
22 Fingers Crossed Mixed trad 25m, 4 Very Good
This is a beautiful line with some great variation, the handcrack section is epic! Climbed the trad section and clipped the first bolt cleanly but was too pumped so rested on the bolt. I'd say the crux for me is moving left after clipping the bolt (I'm tall which helps with clipping before moving left). I worked/dogged most of the rest of the route as I was just too pumped and the crux is tricky. This is a nice project for me, being efficient through the trad section is important to avoid pump!

Sun 19th Jan 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff Wall of Fate
17 Billy Bold Trad 12m Good
Easy climbing upto a nice hand/fist crack that widens towards the top. Great fun jamming the narrower half of the crack and some nice laybacking up the wide top section. Doubles of 4 or a 4 & 5 would be useful. Looking forward to leading next time!

Sat 18th Jan 2020 - Waipapa
Main Cliff Wall of Fate
17 Stealing Dad's Rack Trad 10m Good
Nice 17, pretty easy up to the top 1/3rd which is a bit commiting and quite insecure feeling for me. Surprisingly pumpy for the top section!

17 The Slot Machine Trad 15m Good
Wasn't the best choice of warm up.. not particularly good at big hand jam sized jamming and my hands were already cut up enough so I decided to get lowered off.. will come back with more tape and more than one 3.

Fri 3rd Jan 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
Cracks Wall
19 Flake 7 Trad 20m Classic
After a good rest I got back on and managed the crux fairly smoothly. The rest of the climb has a couple of interesting balancy spots, pleasant climbing. Looking forward to climbing this again, it's one of the best trad climbs I've done at Kawakawa Bay.

19 Flake 7 Trad 20m Classic
Spent too long arranging pro below the small roof so was pumped by the time I attempted the balancy crux, couldn't quite make the good jam, feet were badly positioned. Had a smooth fall onto a bomber .3 C4, lowered to rest. Was quite fustrated to loose the onsight attempt.

18 Biggie Smalls Trad 15m Good
Quite a good quick warm up climb, I enjoy the dihedral top section! I climbed the fist crack much smoother this time round.

Thu 2nd Jan 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
Cracks Wall
18 Biggie Smalls Trad 15m Good
Easy climbing with some good fist jams upto bit trickier slab, nice to have a .2 or .1 cam to protect before the run out top moves.

Wed 1st Jan 2020 - Kawakawa Bay
The Yacht Club
16 Fuggin Jetskis Trad 15m Good
Gear is a bit thin/small at the top 1/3rd but adequate. Tricams would be useful along with offset nuts and small cams (found a reasonable offset cam placement). Not one for a trad newbie.

18 Outboard Crack Trad 20m Very Good
I really like this one, one of the best trad lines I've done at cracks wall. I lead it cleanly, though I had previously fallen at the first finger crack (which I cruised through this time round) seconding it earlier last summer.

21 Mr Bastard Trad 12m Good
Top rope dog, pretty hard for me, harder than The Skink Prince and Hugs not Drugs, I'd say its a 21. Would be a very bold lead!

15 The Crack Head Next Door (The Crack Whore Next Door) Trad 12m Average
16 Blindmans Bluff Trad 28m Classic
Overshadowed by Gecko Grove this is a much nicer climb IMO, nicer moves, a fun roof to pull, more variation in the climbing

Fri 27th Dec 2019 - Kawakawa Bay
Wall of Sirens
18 19 Femme Fatale Trad 22m Good
Done from the lake off Donovans boat with Thomas Herman. Certainly an exciting way to warm up to kawakawa climbing getting off the boat with a full trad rack, constructing an anchor and climbing up over some very dirty ground! What an experience. I would recommend rapping in and cleaning as all these climbs are pretty dirty, I doubt they get many repeats but they should, good fun!

Sat 21st Dec 2019 - Waipapa

Another great experience of this classic climb. Pretty tiring on the feet with all the stemming.

Thu 19th Dec 2019 - Maungarei Springs
Right Corner Wall
18 Midday Lightning Trad 12m Very Good
Quality climb, some great moves, kinda thin gear up top 1/3rd keeps it feeling spicy, would have been nice to have another ballnut. Definitely getting this climb down smoother, got better gear in this time too. Placed my first ballnut and offset cam!

Thu 19th Dec 2019 - Maungarei Springs
Lakeside Wall
19 18 Zig Mixed trad 14m, 2 Good
Unfortunately I rested on the first bolt figuring out the moves, kinda a bit awkward and tricky but fun crux. Look forward to giving it another burn.

Another quality outing on Bomb Arete, this time comfortable with trad, quite some progression since my first outing on this classic. I lead the first two pitches and Charlie lead the 3rd up Plum Duff.

Sat 2nd Nov 2019 - Mangatepopo Valley
Tuwharetoa Lower Tier
21 The Tempest Trad 50m
Sketchy start over flakey ground with limited pro. Some of the cracks are dirty and require removal of soil to get gear in. Didn't particularly fancy the look of the first arete and had a look at the main higher arete, the first bolt looked rusty so be very cautious of these old bolts.. ended up climbing Cirrus Minor which is very dirty, particularly the crux slab which I mostly avoided going off route to the left.. The climbing upto/past the bolts looks quite tricky but good climbing, wouldn't trust those old bolts though.

17 Cirrus Minor - with Charlie Trad 50m Average
Not recommended in the current state and the start is basically a solo for a way. Needs a serious clean unfortuantely, crux slab was so dirty I went off route to avoid it.. couldn't find any pro for the first 12 or so metres of the climb either so that was sketchy climbing over dirty flakes. Several of the placements required excavating due to soil build up.. A shame the route does not get more traffic as I'd give it a star if it wasn't soo dirty. The crux slab looks tricky, a shame it was way too licheny for me to feel comfortable attempting.

15 Ta-Lo - with Charlie Trad 20m Very Good
Love this climb, always a good experience. Left a new sling at the top and binned the old slings..

17 Boat Ramp Crack - with Rafael White Trad 45m Good
Lead by Rafael in fine style, fun crux down low. Bit dirty, should have brought a brush up. Linked up with the 2nd pitch of Gravity Games (19) and the top pitches of After The Sunset (17,20,15) for a great 4 / 5 pitch (5th pitch is very short) link up. Took 4 abseils to reach ground with a 70m rope!

Sun 27th Oct 2019 - Kawakawa Bay
The Bluff The Lower Bluff
18 Psychedelic Freeway - with Rafael White Mixed trad 42m, 11 Very Good
2nd try at this one... Rafael lead the first 17 pitch and the fun 16 Captain Caveman top out, whilst I did a variation of the 2nd... This one still spanked me, was going well till about 1/2 way up the wildy exposed crack till I started pumping out and was very close to peeling off, I went off route to rest out right on a ledge... I didn't fancy a tricky move out onto the crack and quite frankly was too worked to attempt the rest of the crack so carefully climbed up the dirty slab and joined the top bolts.. disppointing but I'll be back another time perhaps fresh rather than at the end of two tiring days climbing ha!! Quite a mentally and physically draining pitch for me atm, good test piece for myself, glad I gave it a better go than last time.

Rafael lead the 1st traversy pitch, I lead the crux 19 pitch. Fun climbing, found some of the pro a bit average on the 2nd pitch, offset nuts useful. Linked up nicely with the top pitch (19) of Mr Mojo to finish with some technical climbing which Raf lead.

Followed Jonno up the first pitch. Looked at the chimney but neither of us was too keen to lead it, would love to get ontop of the detached pillar.

19 Quarry Climbing Mixed trad 12m, 2 Very Good
Had another attempt, hoping to get it smoother. I had a rest on the 2nd bolt again figuring out the tricky crux moves and my first fall on a cam in the top crack wahoo! I really like this climb and it always gives me an experience! Wasn't hand jamming very well but I used the crack more this time (with some feet on the face) and didn't go offroute to the right so that's progress. Overall I climbed it better this time round.

15 Ta-Lo Trad 20m Very Good
Tried the crack system line just to the right of Ta-Lo (does this have a name?). Got about halfway up and wasn't too keen on the tricky looking climbing above with the wider crack so finished on the nice cracks of Ta-Lo!

Sat 23rd Mar 2019 - Mangatepopo Valley
Tuwharetoa Lower Tier
14 Between The Lines Trad 20m Good
Nice climb, good jams. What is it with climbs in this area being a grade or two lower than what they feel?

15 Ta-Lo Trad 20m Very Good
Really enjoyed this climb! Got some nice jams in, lovely parallel cracks that gobble your cams up. Was quite happy to have doubles of .75 and 1 (the only doubles I have atm). I'm feeling more comfortable with my foot jams, need to work on hand jams to get more comfortable/ solid with them. Couldn't spot many nut placements myself. There's a great spike at the top to belay off/ rap. Abseiled from the spike to near the base of Death Wall with a 70m rope, easily down climbed blocks from there.

17 Jemmett's Jam Creek Trad 40m Good
Wish I was more confident in my jams as that crack at half height looks nice! Not sure if there used to be a track to these climbs (?) but the approach is quite bushy.

19 Quarry Climbing - with Charlie Mixed trad 12m, 2 Very Good
Really enjoyed this one. Engaging, balancy moves and fun sequences. Had a rest on the 2nd bolt, figuring out how to do the above moves. Worthy of two stars. Arguably went a bit off route near the top going right, need to work on my hand jams so I can trust them more. Found two nice offset nut placements!

Awesome climbing at a spectacular location. Did the direct tricky slabby start at about grade 20, rest of climb is about grade 17. Got the start clean second go after my first trad fall. Alpine draws, doubles of cams and some hexes quite useful.

Nice route, good gear. Would be a good lead for beginner trad climbers. A few loose blocks to be wary off. I reckon at least one move is close to a 15.

18 Hat Trick - with Wayne Mixed trad 35m, 2 Classic
Really cool, engaging route. Easier to the first bolt than expected, this route has two cruxes. Decently exposed feeling. Good variety of moves and gear. Small cams and nuts are very useful as are alpine draws. Rapped off to make cleaning a cam that walked easier, plenty of rope left with a 60m from the boulder we rapped from.
