If this was at Bundaleer, it would be a good warmup for Blimp. Unfortunately it’s lost in choss land, with the escape pitch being more akin to a messy construction site left dormant for a hundred thousand years (we found our fixed line useful here).
The corner is not quite the magnificent pitch we were led to believe, but still a fun and techy pitch with some thinness to keep you honest. A broken nub helped keep me gripped most of the way. What the Grampians lacks in good corners, it makes up for in wildly dramatic scenery. The joys of adventure climbing! |

We were stoked to find this stunner unblemished by mere mortals (ie sport climbers), probably because it is a fearsome neighbour to the other climbs.
Once spotting what appeared to be the most bomber overhung jams on planet earth, we knew our only choice was to appease the crack gods and try the line. Ever the faithful servant, I tied in as sacrifice. I quickly found myself in a fight like a cockatoo balancing on a wire, and was even cheered on by the birds themselves. After gravity nearly brought me down, I managed to pull safely into a moss garden where I was able to moisturise any dry skin, before clawing my way to the finish. Jake enjoyed a cleaner line up some crimps. Safe to say the crack gods and I were pleased! |

Bluffs Bluff Major Blockbuster Ledge
18 | ★★★ Scorpion - with Imogen | 30m | ★★★ Mega Classic
We originally set out for the watchtower but were quickly and easily swindled into heading up the bluffs with some mates. Next thing we knew we were scrambling and squirming our way on the approach to blockbuster ledge (great fun in its own right!)
Finding ourselves in a mild, breezy and exposed position we knew it was on, and when my heart jumped out of my throat and landed in Scorpion, I could only whimper and dutifully follow. I felt happy to have some previous bottomless chimney experience in Death Row and Oceanoid… As per usual, I survived the ordeal with a right dose of singing. In the upper gloriousness I found my reasonably-sized forearms useful in tackling the unreasonably-sized fist crack. Instead of oiling the vocal chords, Imogen opted for more practical beta with the head jam. Way to treat the new helmet I traded! Apparently it worked because she made it to the top. Upon reaching the summit’s classic views, we could only laugh at the crowded watchtower carpark, and at the surrounding rain squalls that appeared from nowhere (only unleashing upon our arrival back at the pines). It also made me think - sometimes the best decisions in life are orchestrated by others. It’s very cool to bring meaning to a line that’s caught my eye every time I’ve travelled past. In summary, a real stunner and every bit the adventure-I’ll-never-forget I hoped for! |

Its classic if you make it classic, and besides, now you can say 'I've climbed El Cap!" According to tradition, I took enough gear to climb El Cap, and decided to place as many different pieces as possible: various cams from #0.1 to #5 (including Metolius, WC and BD), a tricam, an offset cam, an offset nut, a regular nut, a small hex and a sling. Sad to say I couldn't find a spot for the big bro. The summit was enjoyed with Jared the soft toy squirrel and a hot cuppa

Thought this was a fun little number with spicy crimps, hard for the grade, and a cheeky finger crack which adds a star or two. Felt safe clipping carrots and a single 0.75 at the ledge

From the ground it looks thin and unremarkable but is actually quite fun with surprisingly good holds. Cam down low is essential

Easy awkwardness to finish the day. Engaging mix of chimney, choss, finger locks and jams in between veg and loose chockstones, pro not bad. Enjoyable for aspiring choss heads

I’d rather not be sailing. Fantastic arete grabbing, with enough razor edges for quality cranking and enough jugs to enjoy in between. Loved the boulder problem start especially with the pre clipped ring. Would have enjoyed a #4 near the top but otherwise it felt well protected for the county

Awesome experience with a bit of everything. ‘Why walk when you can climb out?’ A late decision to send led to cold fingers while wicked winds threatened to throw us off. The name is accurate! But we persevered, dropped a bolt plate (the carrots stick out unecessarily) and made it to the giant cave for a beautiful sunset! Leaving P3 at twilight heightened the already exciting exit out of the cave, but was worth it, not least because we failed to bring head torches (typical). Next time will bring less bags and less gear - just need a few small cams for P1, a small wire and maybe a #3 for P2

Great laybacking and some jam action too. Like a mini flake crack (give it a tap!)
